The Emma Maersk is also regarded as the second biggest serving ships presently in the world. One of the interesting things about this ship is that in 2006 when it was launched for the first time, it became the largest containership ever built and four years later, the Emma Maersk along with seven others were regarded among the longest container ship ever constructed in history.

After its construction, the ship had fully entered the service in July 2013. The length of this giant ship is being measured as 399 meters with a maximum speed of 23 knots.

The Esso Atlantic was used mostly as an oil tanker, but it was scrapped in Pakistan in the year 2002. Preliminary studies on this giant ship reveal that Batillus was a supertanker because of its gigantic size that was seen as one of the biggest in the world by 1976. The ship is measured to be 414.22 meters with a deadweight capacity of about 552,000 tons. However, it’s important to know that this beautiful ship has made her last journey on the 28th day of December, 1985. 

3. Pierre Guillaumat (414.22 meters long)

The Pierre Guillaumat was regarded as a supertanker and was named after Pierre Guillaumat who happened to be the French politician and the founder of Elf Aquitaine oil industry. The ship is said to weigh about 555,000 tons with 414.22 meters in length and was built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique at Saint-Nazaire for Compagnie Nationale de Navigation in 1977. Unfortunately for this giant ship, it only served the world for few years and was then disposed of as scrap.

This was the second biggest ships ever built in the world and it was reported to have measured up to 445 meters in length. The Seawise giant was originally known as Oppama, knock Nevis, Jahre Viking, and Happy Giant before it was later named as Mont. By deadweight tonnage, this ship is regarded as the longest and largest in the world. According to reports, the Seawise Giant was built by Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd in the year 1979 and unfortunately, the ship was damaged during the Iran-Iraq war which led to its sinking deep into the ocean. However, its wreckage was later found years after and the ship has been repaired and restored back to life before finally being disposed of as scrap in December 2009.

With its length of 488 meters, this ship is unarguably said to be longer (in size) than one of the tallest building in the world, the Empire State Building. The ship was launched in South Korea in 2003 and has been discovered that it has the largest floating facilities ever built in any ship in the world. Experts revealed that, the Prelude FLNG weighs about 600,000 tons, which is more than four times weight of the largest aircraft carrier.

Wikipedia says it is a “floating liquefied natural gas platform “. The only time the word “ship” is used is in the word “shipyard”.
