The Nissan Versa is the cheapest car that is available for purchase in the United States. It has a good fuel economy by US standards as well, getting 27 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. It is a roomy four-door sedan. Of course, as you’re about to see, it has nothing on its overseas competitors in mpg or price!

This city car is produced by South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai, starting in 2007. It comes in only one style, a 5 door hatchback. It was recognized as “Car Of The Year” in 2008 by Overdrive magazine and CNBC AutoCar. It was initially released with a 1.1 liter, 68 horsepower engine, but other versions were released later. It is one of the roomier cars that is still very cheap.

It was first produced in Brazil, and then in Poland, India, South Africa, China, Russia, and several Latin American countries. The Chery A1 is a Chinese model that has been in production since 2007. It features a 4 cylinder, 1.3-liter engine. It is one of the larger “supermini” cars available and even has decent trunk space. The Standard (base) model sells for $7,500 while the Comfortable and Luxury models have CD players, electric windows, and power steering, and a bit higher price tag.

The Dacia Logan is made by the company Dacia in Romania. This company is also owned by the French manufacturer Renault. It has four versions- sedan, station wagon, pickup, and van. The first Dacia was released in Romania in 2004, and a four-door sedan costs $6,500. In 2007, they began production in India. Later the car was being sold in Brazil, Russia, Colombia, and South Africa, due to its popularity.

The Geely MR is a Chinese car that was released in 2000. The car today has many new improvements. Its base model is available for $5,500. It is available in two options, the 5 door hatchback Merrie and the four-door. The Greely MR is equipped with such luxury features that other cheap cars don’t have.

This car is produced in China and is very popular because of its small size and great price. The Chery company calls the QQ3 “a legend in the Chinese history of the automobile… a mini model with the highest cumulative sales in China”. In 2010, Chery released the QQ3 EV, the lowest price electric only car in China, selling at $6,500 after government incentives.

Available only in Asia, this is a small city car that is the car second longest in production in India. It has a 0.8 liter, 3 cylinder engine, and its maximum speed is around 70 mph. It is a very popular 5 door hatchback, with a total production of nearly 3 million cars.

The Bajaj RE60 is actually a quadricycle, not a car. It was built to challenge the Tata Nano in India, but since it is not legally classified as a car, it can’t be sold to private individuals. It is very useful in India as a motorized rickshaw (taxi). It is designed with minimal air pollution, which is very important in crowded areas. It can only reach about 30 mph, so it was definitely not created for speed, but for maximum practicality in a crowded and busy area such as Mumbai.
1. Tata Nano – $2,000
This is definitely at the top of our list of cheapest cars in the word. The Tata Nano is an extremely compact city car. When it was first produced in 2008, it cost around $2,000. Its cost has risen slightly, but it is still the cheapest car available on the open market. It features a 624cc 2 cylinder engine. It has one big windshield wiper which functions instead of two. It also has just three lug nuts on each wheel (car usually have four). Also missing from the car are airbags, radio, and a CD player. Its top speed is about 60 mph, and it can get up to 45 mpg. This is truly an unpretentious car for people needing to get around cheaply.
