10. Ulric the Cat, 30 lbs.
Ulric is a Norwegian Forest cat that is at least twice as heavy as he should be. He weighs over 30 lbs! His owner, Jan Mitchell of Dorchester, UK, has had him on a controlled diet since he was very young, but at 15 months old he already weighed 17 lbs. Ulric loves to eat, and when he’s done with his food, he has no problem simply walking over and eating another cat’s food. Ulric was one of 21 overweight animals who were accepted by the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals, a UK veterinary group that specializes in animals with unusual health problems. Ulric has definitely earned his spot in the top 10 fattest pets in the world.
9. Goldie the Goldfish, 2 lbs.
While 2 lbs. might not seem large, for a pet goldfish, it’s huge! Goldie was only an inch long when his owner bought him for 99 cents. But 15 years later, Goldie won the title of largest pet goldfish, being 15 inches long, 5 inches wide, and weighing over 2 lbs! Goldie lives with his owners in Kent, England.
8. Bandit the Raccoon, 75 lbs.
Named by the Guinness Book of World Records as “The World’s Fattest Raccoon”, Bandit is certainly the largest raccoon I’ve ever heard of! He lives in Palmerton, Pennsylvania. Bandit had thyroid problems which caused his huge weight gain. Bandit passed away in 2004, but there hasn’t been a fatter raccoon recorded before or after his death.
7. Ralph the Rabbit, 55 lbs.
Ralph is a 4-year-old rabbit from the UK that weighs 55 lbs. For several years, Ralph held the Guinness World Record for being the largest rabbit. Ralph eats about $75 a week of cabbage, broccoli, corn on the cob, cucumbers, carrots, wheat bread, apples, watercress, and crackers. Size runs in Ralph’s family- his mother held the record for biggest rabbit until she died five years ago, (of a heart attack) and his father had held the record previous to his mother!
6. Meow the Cat, 39.6 lbs
Also known as Meow the Fat Cat, Meow was a male cat who became famous when an animal shelter made public their efforts to put him on a diet in hopes of getting him adopted. Sadly, Meow died of lung failure two weeks after going to live at the animal shelter. He was the world’s heaviest cat, weighing 39.6 lbs.
5. Zorba the Dog, 314 lbs.
Zorba is an English Mastiff from London who holds the all-time Guinness World Record for the largest dog ever at 314 lbs! He was 8 years old when these measurements were taken, in September of 1987. From the tip of his nose to the end of his tail, he measured 8 feet and 3 inches longs. He was 37 inches tall at the shoulders. Since then there has been recorded dogs that weighed more, but none have ever been as large overall as Zorba.
4. Gary the Capybara, 112 lbs.
The largest pet rodent of all time award goes to Gary the capybara. He weighs an extraordinary 112 lbs! Normally found in South America, this very fat capybara lives in Texas. His family adopted him from a breeder in Arkansas. Since capybaras live love water, his owners got a swimming pool so Gary can spend plenty of time in the water. He has his own bed, and enjoys the other animals his owners keep- a horse, rabbits, dogs, and a cat.
3. Sammy the Tortoise, 115 lbs.
Sammy is a gigantic, 115 lb. tortoise who lives in San Francisco, CA. As a baby, Sammy was small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. He lives on a healthy diet of fresh clover, apples, and leafy greens. Sammy is also famous because he is the pet of NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who plays for the San Francisco 49ers.
2. Benedictine the Dog, 366 lbs.
Benedictine is a St. Bernard dog who currently holds the record for the World’s Heaviest Dog. Not much else is know about Benedictine, except that he was recorded to weigh a staggering 366 lbs., outweighing Zorba by almost 50 lbs. He was bred and raised by the well-known US St. Bernard kennel Schwarzwaldhof.
1. Big Bill the Pig, 2,552 lbs.
Definitely ranking #1 on our list of the top 10 fattest pets in the world is Big Bill the pig. Owned by Elias Buford Butler, Big Bill lived in Jackson, Tennessee, and weighed over 2,500 lbs. in 1933. He was scheduled to be exhibited at the Chicago World Fair, but he broke his leg and because of his size, he was unable to make a full recovery.
